Adventures at Sea and on Ladders

Hello Everyone,

We're still pickin' apples, but we had a few days off to let the next batch of fruit ripen. We took the opportunity to go kayaking in Able Tasman National Park. On day one we caught a water taxi with our gear and boat to Tonga Bay and then we were on our own. We explored the seal reserve on Tonga Island, travelled up two quiet estuaries and battled the waves created by a coral reef. We camped the night at a campsite on a lovely beach where we angered a little blue penguin with our flashlight and explored a little glow worm cave. On day two, our friend Simon met us in the morning and we all travelled back to civilization, but not before stopping on a beach on Adele Island and visiting Split Apple Rock. The rest of the pictures are a mish-mash of things. That's all for now!

We gave our boat a beaver figure-head. Shockingly, he hardly got wet at all.

We loved the colour of this apple, so Gareth got a photo of it. (It is a Braeburn for those who are curious.)

The photo is a bit dark, but the caravan in the front is our humble abode. The other building contains our kitchen, living room, and bathroom. We call it the 'estate'.

If all cows looked like this lion-cow, would we be so quick to eat them?

Eucalyptus trees and resevoir on the orchard.

Me with my picking bag in front of apple trees, of course.

And this one is for Gareth's niece. Couldn't resist.

Map Location

Hi everyone,

Below is a map of our orchard in Motueka. I don't know how to tag locations on the map, so I'll have to describe them:
The little cluster of buildings in the centre is our housing complex, and the right-most of the two small white rectangles on a diagonal is our caravan. Hard to describe, I know. If you zoom out, you will see a larger cluster of buidings to the south-west, right next to Waiwhero Road. South of this you will see rows of trees and a reservoir for irrigation. This, and the rows around our house, are where we do most of our apple picking.

Hope all is well, and love to everyone,

-Gareth and Sara
